1955-66 Classic Ford S9 Silver Hub Adapter | STH1041SIL

There are very few options when it comes to steering wheel adaptors for a 1958 Ford Custom 300. This one is a quality piece, the surface finish is very good. Although it seems to be a little more universal, than vehicle specific.

Here are a list of things I encountered during my install.

I had a hard time trying to get any bolts to not cross thread into the 9 bolt holes, so I re-taped the holes to 10-32 tread. FYI: The adaptor does not come with bolts. The splines on the adaptor were correct but it took quite a bit of effort and time to get it to mesh with the steering shaft. After they meshed together once, it was much easier to take the adaptor on and off.

For my application it requires a ground from the horn button to the adaptor. This was missing, so I drilled and tapped a hole for a bolt.

It also required a shim between the adaptor and the steering column to allow me to tighten the steering nut down without the adaptor and column touching each other.

The biggest issue is the turn signal canceling mechanism. The provide piece on the back of the hub is much to large in diameter and runs into "parts" inside the steering column. I removed the one provided and replaced it with the one of my stock wheel. This mostly fixed the issue, but it only self cancelled when making left turns. I'll have to modify the part a little more to make it work.
